It is a pleasure to present Engenho, a company from Amapá that was born in 2020 with a very important mission: to use the açaí seed in the production of aromatic beverages, reducing environmental impacts and generating jobs and income. Founded by Lázaro Gonçalves, Coordinator, and Valda Gonçalves, CEO, Engenho is a company that values sustainability and social responsibility in all its activities.     An Environmental Problem

    The açaí production chain generates tons of solid waste in agroindustries, causing a serious environmental impact due to its accumulation and disposal in inappropriate places. For example, in the state of Amapá alone, 24,450 kg of açaí seeds are discarded every day in the urban areas of Macapá and Santana alone, not counting the other counties and towns in the state. Based on this, Engenho developed an innovative solution as an alternative to reduce the environmental impacts caused by the açaí production chain and at the same time generate jobs and income: an aromatic drink made from the use of açaí seeds, becoming the first company that is registered to use açaí residues (seeds) for food purposes.

    Product - Açaí Coffee

    Açaí coffee, as it became known, is a drink with characteristics similar to traditional coffee, as the production process is the same. However, unlike traditional coffee, the consumption of this aromatic drink brings numerous health benefits, as studies and research have proven significant amounts of vitamins A, D, E, K, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, in addition to anthocyanins and tannins.

    Tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, with a wide variety of flavors and health benefits. Engenho can offer a new kind as an aromatic tea option. Açaí coffee can also be a tea, Tea Engenho, made from açaí seeds, offering consumers a delicious and sustainable option. The global tea market is expected to reach USD 73.4 billion by 2024, with a compound annual growth of 5.5% between 2019 and 2024 (Source: Mordor Intelligence). Green tea is the most consumed type of tea in the world, with a market share of 39.1% in 2018 (Source: Grand View Research).


    Gourmet coffee is a growing market, with consumers increasingly demanding in terms of quality and flavor. Engenho can offer a new aromatic coffee option, including a blend of Arabic coffee with açaí coffee. Açaí coffee is made from roasted and ground açaí seeds, offering consumers a delicious, healthy and sustainable option. The global gourmet coffee market is expected to reach US$67.6 billion by 2025, with compound annual growth of 8.3% between 2019 and 2025 (Source: Grand View Research). Arabic coffee is the most consumed coffee variety in the world, with a market share of 60% in 2018 (Source: Grand View Research).
